Overview
Lunan Bay is a beautiful bay with shifting beachbreak peaks that break over sand and throw up both lefts and rights. The banks move around, so it pays to look over the bay and pick the peak that's firing on the day.
When It Works
The bay draws swell from northeast through southeast, with a northeast (NE) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. The left point and south end come alive on more northerly swells, while the north end prefers something with more south in it.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind. It can break through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Watch for bad rips, especially on the dropping tide near the rivermouth.

The gentle, shifting peaks make this a friendly spot for beginners finding their feet.
Access
There's a car park at the bay, so park considerately behind the dunes. Take care around the salmon nets and, less usually for a surf spot, unexploded WWII bombs.
