Overview
Maasvlakte P6, also known as Bel's, is the most northern break on Maasvlakte 2, the large recreational beach built when Rotterdam's port expansion swallowed the old Slufter and Blokken spots. It generally serves up the best waves in the area, drawing extra power from the deeper water of the adjacent shipping lane. It's a sand-bottomed beach break that peels both left and right, and the quality can be excellent when it lines up, though the open setting leaves it very exposed to wind.
When It Works
The break picks up swell from west-northwest through north to northeast, with north the direction that really switches it on. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, giving a decent working window across small and mid-size days. Consistency is moderate, so it won't fire every session, but the good windows are worth catching.
Wind and Tide
Because the beach sits so open, wind matters a lot here. The workable wind window runs from north-northeast through east-southeast to south, with southeast the offshore direction that cleans it up best. It can work through most of the tide, though a rising tide is the better call and mid tide works best.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the peaks are friendly to a wide range of boards, from shortboards and fish to funboards, longboards, and SUPs. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, with a mellow atmosphere and friendly locals in the water. Note that overnight camping isn't allowed and local authorities will fine you.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, plus restrooms on hand. Space around Bel's and In Between's is limited, so it's worth arriving early on a promising day.
