Main Street Pier is a sand-bottomed pier break that peels both left and right, making it an approachable spot for beginners. It was one of the area's hot spots back in the '60s and '70s, though the crowd has since drifted south to greener pastures. The setup is much like Sunglow, with one quirk: a chair lift runs the length of the pier, even if it won't drop you out the back when it's big.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from south to north (S-N), but northeast (NE) is the direction that really lights it up. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, giving a wide working window across small and solid days. Expect moderately consistent surf, with dependable windows when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The pier can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, beginner-level wave and a good place to log time on the sand-bottom peaks. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, and note that it becomes a focal point for midsummer college revelers.
Access
You'll find restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf shop on hand. Parking comes in free, paid, and roadside options, but if you want to surf Main Street in summer and park on the beach, get there early or you'll be feeding pricey meter parking.
