More about Makaha surfspot

Makaha is on the north side of the jetty that holds the famous (but overpriced) La Rosa Nautica restaurant on the protruding pier. Like many of the beachbreaks along the Miraflores stretch, power is lacking and rolling, slopey walls are the norm. It can also be a long tiring paddle searching for the outside sets, so use the channels beside the jetty or surf the inside reforms on a floaty board. Probably a bit better on lower tides and early in the day before the onshore pushes in chop that doesn't really improve the gutless rides. Closes-out when it gets overhead and everyone starts to head south for more protection.

Good learning spot and many do, as there are 3 surf clubs here and a lot of history as well, since this is the cradle of Peruvian surf culture. Some pollution and run-off plus rips can get strong outside the jetties heading north. Weekend crowds, but the shifting line-up soaks up plenty of surfers.
