Overview
Manresa is a west-facing beachbreak that catches a lot of swell and sits out of the shadow of Santa Cruz, which makes it a reliable standby all year. It can be overhead here when the rest of Santa Cruz is flat, and on bigger winter swells it turns triple-overhead and almost impossible to surf. The bottom is sand and the peaks throw both rights and lefts, and it earns a decent rating for a dependable, fun day.
When It Works
Manresa draws swell across a wide window, from south-southwest to west-northwest, so it stays in play through spring, summer, autumn, and winter. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, giving you everything from waist-high days to serious overhead surf. When it gets big, expect a strong, committing paddle, and on the largest swells you might not make it out.
Wind and Tide
Look for east-northeast offshore wind to clean it up, with a workable wind window running from northeast to east. It holds up on mid and high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call. Manresa is not as tide-sensitive as some nearby spots, so you have room to score it through much of the cycle.
Local Tips
There is plenty of space in the water and the lineup stays quiet, though it can feel a little reserved. It suits everyone from beginners to experts, and the bank handles a wide quiver, whether you are riding a shortboard, fish, funboard, gun, or even a skimboard. Keep in mind there are occasional shark sightings, and tired arms are the main worry once the swell picks up.
