Manzanillo (Limón) is a sand-bottom beachbreak that suits beginners and picks up even small swells. Off the headlands you'll also find right-hand reef options, reached by a trek through the jungle of the national refuge. In most swells it serves up good, forgiving waves.
When It Works
The beach pulls in swell from northeast through east, and it's at its best on a northeast (NE) swell. Expect rideable waves from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, peeling both left and right over sand. It stays moderately consistent, though as an exposed beach it rewards cleaner, calmer days.
Wind and Tide
A south (S) offshore wind grooms the faces here. The bank works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
