Overview
Meio, or Praia do Meio, is a beach break with a handful of decent peaks breaking over uneven reef and sand, offering both lefts and rights. It sits at one end of the beach, while the far end is Cachorro, below the well-known viewpoint from the Fort Remedios, where the bottom turns rockier and you can find some longer lefts. It's a good place to slip away from the crowds and ride slightly easier waves.
When It Works
The peaks come in best on northeast (NE) swell, but will take anything from northwest through northeast (NW-NE). It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, giving a broad window of rideable size. Expect moderately consistent conditions, with worthwhile sessions when the setup lines up rather than surf every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind to clean up the peaks. It can work through most of the tide, coming together best on mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Meio suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet when it's on.
Access
It's the closest beach to Vila dos Remedios, where most of the accommodation is based, so it's an easy one to reach.
