Miami is a sand-bottomed beach break on the Gold Coast, throwing up both lefts and rights. As the long beach curves eastwards toward Burleigh Heads, the aspect improves and conditions clean up in south winds, though any southeast to south swell tends to slip past Miami and run down toward Surfers instead.
When It Works
Miami draws swell from northeast through southeast, with east the optimal direction. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and as a consistent stretch it picks up waves regularly.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind, and get up early to make the most of it before the wind fills in. It's best through low and mid tide, with a rising tide the better call. Steer clear of high tide, when the waves go slack and the outside and inside channel eats into your length of ride.
Local Tips
This is a forgiving, beginner-friendly stretch, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it works. The days of finding this part of the Goldie quiet and empty are long gone.
