Overview
Misty Cliffs is a beach break built on shifty sandbars over rocky patches, tucked down the coast from the messier beachbreaks of Witsands. When the banks line up, it can throw the occasional hollow runner, and it peels both left and right.
When It Works
It draws swell from southeast through south to west (SE-S-W), with southwest (SW) swell the best match. The break is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and stays moderately consistent. On small summer days, when everywhere else is small and gutless, it can be one of the few spots still holding a wave, so surfers tend to converge here.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. It breaks through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide the better call. It blows out easily on wind and swell, so aim for the cleaner, lighter windows.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it's working.
