Overview
Moffats is a longboard-friendly point in Caloundra, breaking left over an uneven reef with long, crumbly sections. It's the home of the mal around here, a relaxed wave for working on cutbacks and linking through the softer, bouncing bits.
When It Works
Moffats draws swell from northeast through southeast, with southeast the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and is moderately consistent, so there are worthwhile windows without expecting it every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest offshore wind. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, but a rising tide is the better call, and those long sections get more makeable as the tide fills in. Keep an eye out for rocks that peek through at low.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, beginner-suited wave and a good spot to tune up your cutbacks and stay busy through the flatter sections. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
Access
You'll find restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, camping, plus a surf school and surf shop nearby. For parking there's a car park with free parking, along with paid and roadside options.
