Overview
Mondos is a soft, mellow point that makes a good alternative when the busier spots around the region get crowded. The waves tend to run a touch smaller here, breaking as a handful of slow, gently peeling peaks that suit an easy-going session more than a high-performance one. It's a dependable, forgiving wave rather than the standout of the area.
When It Works
Mondos picks up most swell directions and stays rideable through most swell events, drawing swell from west-southwest to west-northwest (WSW-WNW). It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.5 m / 5 ft, roughly waist- to head-high. On a medium-low tide the peaks sharpen up and the rights can run along the break in point-like fashion. You can find waves year-round, with the best window from October through February.
Wind and Tide
Look for north-northeast (NNE) offshore wind, with a workable wind window running from north-northeast to northeast (NNE-NE). It breaks on low and mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call, with a medium-low tide the time the waves peak up most nicely.
Local Tips
Most surfers ride longboards or funboards here, and the soft, slow peaks make it a friendly place for beginners and improving intermediates. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, and the atmosphere can feel a little reserved.
Access
You can park right in front of the break. The catch is the climb down: the rocks between the road and the water get slippery, so take your time getting in and out of the water.
