Moose surf guide

Moose is a popular surf spot located just south of Halifax, making it one of the most accessible breaks for local surfers. This beachbreak attracts a lot of surfers, especially on the weekends and during the summer. The area has a laid-back vibe, but be prepared for some crowds when the waves are good. The beach itself provides ample parking, so you won't have to trek too far to get to the water.

The waves at Moose tend to be pretty fun, especially on high tides. The optimal conditions show up with south to southeast swells and northwest winds, allowing for manageable lefts and rights that break over a mix of sand and uneven reef. You can expect to catch waves that range from about 1 meter (3 ft) to 2.1 meters (7 ft) in size. This spot caters to surfers of all abilities, from beginners to experts, with the best conditions found in autumn and winter. The inside cove also offers some tube sections when the conditions align.

When you head out, keep in mind that Moose can be chilly in winter, so be sure to gear up appropriately. While the spot can get crowded, especially in summer, weekdays are a lot quieter, giving you more space to enjoy the waves. Just remember that the local vibe can vary, depending on who you meet out in the lineup.
