Morro Rock is a consistent, west-facing beachbreak that reliably picks up swell, breaking over sand. It's a powerful break when the swell is big and turns fast and fun when it's small, with long, mushy lefts peeling off the Rock itself.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through north, with northwest (NW) the best direction. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so there's a wide window between too small and too big. In bigger swells the entrance to Morro Bay can throw up waves of its own, while on smaller days the nearby South Jetty beachbreaks come into their own.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean things up. It can be good on any tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a busy lineup when it's on, since this reliable swell-catcher pulls a crowd. There's plenty of room to spread out northward, though, and both lefts and rights are on offer.
Access
You'll find restrooms on hand, plus a car park with free parking.
