Moulay Bousselham Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Moulay Bousselham is a shifty set of beachbreak peaks north of a large lagoon outflow, fed by a nearby rivermouth. It's a great escape if you've tired of Morocco's endless right-hand pointbreaks and the crowds that come with them. Even when it gets busy in summer, the spot hangs onto its sleepy fishing village feel, a friendly place that's slowly turning into a summer resort and pulling more vans off the road on their way south. It won't dazzle like the region's pointbreaks, but it's a fun place to trade a few peaks over a clean sand bottom.

When It Works

The banks draw swell from west through north, with west (W) the standout direction. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and the more open beachbreak north of the outflow handles a touch more size when the shifty banks line up. Peaky summer and autumn swells suit it best, and autumn is the season to aim for. As with any beachbreak, sandbar rips shift around here, so keep an eye on the currents.

Wind and Tide

Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean up the peaks. It breaks best from mid to high tide, with a rising tide the better call.

Local Tips

The peaks throw both lefts and rights and reward intermediate surfers on a shortboard or bodyboard. The lineup stays fairly quiet with a somewhat reserved feel, filling in over summer before emptying out again through winter.

Access

Drive into Moulay Bousselham village and park right in front of the break in the car park, where parking is free. There's camping and accommodation nearby if you want to settle in for a few days.
