Mpande Bay surf guide

Mpande Bay is a surf spot that caters to different skill levels, making it a nice place for beginners to get their feet wet. The beach setup is pretty straightforward, with sand breaking waves that usually work best in specific conditions. If you’re looking for a relaxed vibe and some fun waves without the frills, Mpande Bay can be a solid choice.

The waves here can handle a swell size of around 1 ft (0.3 m) and work well with a Southeast swell direction. You might catch some action with NorthEast and SouthWest swells too, but watch out; the spot tends to close-out when the swells get bigger. The best time to surf is generally when the wind blows from the Northwest, and the waves can offer both left and right rides. For the most enjoyable experience, it's best to hit this spot during low to mid or even high tide.

South of Mpande Bay, there are a couple more righthanders at Sharks Point and Rame Head, which might be worth exploring if you’re looking for a change of pace. Overall, Mpande Bay is decent for small swell days and has potential for those just starting out in surfing.
