Overview
Norderney is a sand-bottomed beach break that peels both left and right, making it a friendly setup for intermediate surfers looking for rideable peaks.
When It Works
The break draws swell from the southwest through north, and it comes into its best form on a northwest (NW) swell. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. One of the standout windows arrives right after a stormy day: when the wind swings quickly from westerly to easterly, the waves can turn excellent for a couple of hours.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The break works around mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one sits comfortably in intermediate territory, so it's a solid pick if you're past the beginner stage but still building up.
Access
There's plenty on hand, especially in summer: a surf shop, a surf school, camping, restrooms and showers, plus a car park. If you're finding your way around, the surfers' café bar is a good reference point.
