Overview
North Jetty is a left-hand reef break sitting right in front of the harbour wall at Hikkaduwa. It peels over dead coral, and when a big swell rolls through it throws out some long lefts along the rugged reef.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south to west (S-W), with southwest (SW) the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it really needs a decent-sized swell to switch on. Consistency is only moderate, so it pays to time your session around the better windows.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind to groom it clean. The reef can work through most of the tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-level wave, and the lineup gets busy when it's firing. There's a touch of localism here too, so read the pecking order and pick your waves with a bit of patience.
