Overview
Observation City is a beach break sitting on the sand at Scarborough in Western Australia, tucked right beside the beachfront accommodation. The popular Scarborough beaches are about 2 km / 1.2 mi to the south.
When It Works
The surf here only turns on when a rare mix of huge swell, east winds, and well-formed sandbanks comes together. The beach draws swell from southwest to west and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Swell reaches the sand moderately often, but the banks and wind rarely line up for a genuinely good day. When it does break, you'll find both lefts and rights.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Afternoons tend to bring a sea breeze, which pulls plenty of kiters onto the water.
Local Tips
This is a beginner-friendly beach break, so it suits surfers still finding their feet. Expect a busy lineup on the days it works.

There's a car park with free parking, along with paid and roadside options. Facilities include restrooms, showers, and lifeguard cover, and webcams on the beach patrol tower let you check conditions before you head down.
