Odeceixe is a beach break sitting beside a popular hippy town, peeling both left and right over constantly shifting sand. The waves here are nothing to write home about, but the break is consistent and the lineup stays quiet.
When It Works
It picks up swell from the southwest through to the north, with a northwest swell the best match. The sandbars are shaped by the river outflow and shuffle around constantly, so the banks are never quite the same from one session to the next. The spot works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
The break only comes to life at the lower stages of the tide, with low tide the optimal window and a rising tide generally the better call. Look for an east offshore wind to groom it clean.
Local Tips
With mellow, forgiving waves, Odeceixe is a friendly option for beginners. Even when it's working, you can expect an uncrowded lineup.
