Okuragahama is a reliable beachbreak and the hub for surfing along this stretch of coast, with lefts and rights peeling over sand. The south end tends to stay smaller and more forgiving, while the size picks up and the waves run faster as you move toward the north end.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from anywhere between northeast and southeast, and it comes alive best on a southeast swell. It stays consistent across the seasons and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so there is a wide window between too small and too big to find something rideable.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest offshore wind to clean things up. Okuragahama breaks through all tides, but it generally comes into form on a higher, rising tide.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, especially down at the smaller south end. Expect a busy lineup when it works, with plenty of capable locals in the water, and it can get fairly packed on summer weekends.
Access
There is a car park at the beach, along with restrooms, showers, and camping.
