Overview
One Mile is a sand-bottomed beach break wrapping around a beautiful, secluded bay backed by massive sand dunes. It breaks both left and right, and the dunes themselves are worth the trip for a bodyboard ride down.
When It Works
The beach, along with the right off the point, can get pretty good when there's some size in the water. It draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), with southeast (SE) the best match, and works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It's moderately consistent, and when the surf is small it turns into a great longboarding and beginner wave.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind; it also holds up in a southerly. The bank can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a busy lineup when it's on. If the wind swings northeast, walk around to Samurai Beach, which sits more protected and serves up more powerful A-frames.
Access
There's a car park with free parking alongside roadside parking, and camping is available if you want to stay the night.
