Overview
Ormond Beach Pier is a sandbar setup left behind by a pier that has since gone. Its old pilings still stand and help form some reasonable banks over the sand, peeling both left and right. Keep an eye out for the submerged pylons still sitting in the water. Ormond Beach is also home to four-time world champion Lisa Andersen.
When It Works
The banks pick up swell from the south through north (S-N) and are usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, tending to be best around head high. Which end fires depends on the swell, with the north side switching on for south swells and the south side for north swells.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, and it's usually best on a low incoming push.
Local Tips
The forgiving banks make this a friendly spot for beginners.
Access
There's a lifeguard on the beach and a surf shop nearby, along with free roadside parking.
