Ormond Beach is a beachbreak at the foot of Perkins Road, and it makes a good escape from the crowds when peaky, glassy south swells roll in. Just south lies the Point Mugu Pacific Missile Range, where powerful, consistent beach and point surf sits off-limits to the public.
When It Works
Waves break over sand and peel both left and right. The spot draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with southwest the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it tends to be moderately consistent, so there are worthwhile windows when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind. The bank works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
It suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet.
Access
There is free roadside parking.
