Overview
Oura is a shallow left-hand reef break sitting right in front of the harbour, and it is one of those spots that can turn on when everywhere else has fallen apart. The lefts hold north winds, so it stays rideable while the rest of the coast goes messy. The wave runs over an uneven reef and can get hollow in places, though it is more of a sliceable wall than a barrel.
When It Works
Swell arriving from northeast through east wraps in and hugs the reef, with north swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it is moderately consistent, so the good windows come around often enough to be worth watching.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Best suited to intermediate surfers, and the reef is shallow enough to keep that in mind on the way in. Expect a busy lineup, and weekends in particular draw a crowd.
