Overview
Outside Ekas is a chaotic, powerful left that peels below steep cliffs at the eastern headland, breaking over live coral. The wave shifts and jumps around the lineup, and its high-speed walls and the odd tuck section can run really long once there's size to work with.
When It Works
It draws swell from south through southwest (S-SW), with southwest (SW) the best match, and it's a consistent break that reliably pulls in far more swell than neighbouring Inside Ekas. The reef is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, and those walls stretch out most near the top of that range.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate wave, though the long, fast walls step up to an advanced-level challenge when it gets big. Strong currents, long hold-downs, and sea-life are all part of surfing here, so treat it with respect. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, since Ekas sits on the Bali-Sumbawa charter route and picks up local boat traffic from Awang and even Kuta.
