Pass Rights, sometimes called the Alley, is a right-hand reef break that peels over live coral across the channel. It starts off a touch faster and hollower before hitting the deep channel, where cutbacks become the order of the day. There's generous depth and little current until the swell gets overhead. On the far side of the peak, winter south swells can serve up an average left known as Leftovers.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northwest through north, with north (N) the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and stays moderately consistent. Through the summer season it breaks in a similar, stress-free fashion, and a due north swell is fun for most abilities. West-northwest swells are a different story, turning the wave treacherous and sectiony.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind. It works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave is approachable enough for beginners, and the lineup stays fairly quiet when it's on.
