Paúba surf guide

Paúba is a surf spot that's known for its heavy shorebreak. This beach can get pretty gnarly when the swell is right. It works best with south swells coming in, especially from the southeast and southwest. When the conditions are on point, you can expect some solid waves that break over sand, creating an exciting environment for experienced surfers. This spot can get crowded, so be ready to share the waves with others.

The surf here is mostly beach breaks, with both left and right waves available. It handles swell sizes around 3 ft (about 0.9 meters) quite well, but it's really meant for expert surfers due to its challenging nature. Low to mid tide is the best time to paddle out, and if you get lucky with a north wind, you might find some really fun sessions. Just keep in mind that conditions can be inconsistent, and it’s not always firing.

If Paúba is too intense for you, consider checking out the nearby Praia Santiago, which also has a reputation for heavy and hollow waves. For those looking for something more mellow, Guaecá is a good alternative when storm swells are maxing out the open beaches. Just be aware of localism at these spots, as it can sometimes be an issue when the surf is pumping.
