Pavilions is a right-hand reef break that runs down the eastern point, tucked out of the wind and walling up beautifully into a defined channel. That channel makes the paddle back out easy, and the wave has a fun, ripable feel that keeps people coming back.
When It Works
It draws swell from northwest through northeast, with north swell the best match. The reef is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, though it won't hold much above double overhead, roughly the point where the neighbouring Middles section takes over. When it's on you can expect consistent, ultra-performance walls that stand up over a well-covered reef and can barrel through the good sections.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind. The reef works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, and the wall can barrel on the lower stages of the tide.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and it's a real favourite with the local crew, so plan on a very busy lineup whenever it's breaking.
Access
There's a car park with both free and paid parking, plus extra spaces up on the lookout. Facilities include restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard on hand.
