Overview
Pelican Beach Park is one of Satellite Beach's more consistent, lesser-known breaks in Brevard County. Coquina reefs line the best spots and keep long-period swells from shutting down, so it holds together when other Brevard beaches fall apart. The waves are generally more open-faced than hollow but still push back, offering sections to punt or power gouge once it gets overhead. It breaks over sand and coquina worm rock and throws both rights and lefts.
When It Works
The spot draws swell from north-northeast to east (NNE-E) and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, holding shape from waist-high up to a few feet overhead. It comes into its own from fall through spring, with hurricane swells adding to the mix. Quality comes and goes with the sand, but when there is swell in the water it is a decent, dependable call.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the west-southwest (WSW), with a workable wind window running from south through west to north-northwest (S-W-NNW). It can work across low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call and low to mid tide the standout.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate and expert surfers and takes just about any board, from shortboards and funboards to longboards, fish, bodyboards, skimboards, and even bodysurfing. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it is firing, though it often sits empty otherwise, and the vibe stays mellow and somewhat reserved. Keep an eye out for big fish that occasionally cruise along the rocks.
Access
There is public access with a large lot and plenty of parking, and you can even charge an electric car here. The water is usually very clean.
