Plage de l'Ocean surf guide

Plage de l'Ocean is a surf spot located in Anglet, often less crowded due to limited parking at the end of Avenue de l'Ocean, which runs through the golf course. It’s a stretch of sand without jetties, meaning that the sandbars can change frequently. The beach tends to have a steep angle, especially at high tide, which makes it behave similarly to Cavaliers. If conditions are right and the baines are established, you might catch some decent lefts and rights. Otherwise, expect fairly average beachbreak waves, suitable for those just starting out.

This spot handles swells from the west and north, and it works best with swell sizes around 1 ft (0.3 m). The waves break over sand, primarily offering lefts and rights, making it suitable for beginner surfers looking to practice. The best winds are coming from the east, and you’ll find the ideal tide heights are low to mid. When it’s working, Plage de l'Ocean can give you a few fun shoulders without the hassle of too many surfers around.

There’s a lifeguard present to keep an eye on things, plus a helipad nearby, which is a good thing for safety. Just keep in mind to check the conditions before you paddle out, as the rips can get strong and the sandbars aren’t always predictable.
