Anglet surf guide

Anglet is a well-known surf spot located in Southwest France. Stretching along the coastline from Les Cavaliers to VVF, it offers a variety of peaks for surfers of all skill levels. The spot is often a bit less crowded compared to its famous neighbor, Hossegor, making it a decent choice when you want to catch some waves without too much hassle. Access to the beach is easy, with several parking lots and pathways, so you can find your way to the surf with no problem.

The surf at Anglet is generally consistent and can handle a range of swell sizes from about 1.2 meters (4ft) to 3.6 meters (12ft). The best times to surf here are during the autumn and winter months, but it can produce decent waves year-round. Swells come predominantly from the Northwest and West-Northwest, breaking over sandy bottoms. You can find both left and right-hand waves, making it suitable for different riding styles. The ideal wind comes from the East-Southeast or Southeast, and for the best experience, aim for low to mid or mid to high tides. It's a spot where beginners, intermediates, and even seasoned pros can find something to ride, using shortboards, fish, or guns, depending on conditions.

While some areas can get crowded, especially at the well-known peaks, there are plenty of less obvious spots nearby that you can paddle out to. Keep in mind that the crowd can vary greatly depending on where you go, so exploring a bit can pay off. Additionally, the paddling effort can be average on normal days, but when the surf is pumping, it can become more challenging, so be prepared for a workout!
