Playa De La Canteria surf guide

Playa De La Canteria is a small sandy bay located at the northern tip of the island, surrounded by cliffs. This spot has a nice beach vibe and is generally easy to access. It’s a favorable spot for surfers, and depending on the conditions, it can offer some decent rides. The place can get a bit crowded, especially when the surf is on, so be prepared for that if you decide to hit the water.

The waves here are pretty user-friendly, making it a great spot for beginners. It works best with swells from the north, but it can handle a bit of northwest and northeast as well. The optimal swell size is around 2ft (0.6 meters), and it breaks over sand, giving you that softer landing. You can find a peak that breaks in the center of the bay from mid to high tide, turning into a defined left at high tide. Over on the eastern side, you might catch a right-hander chopping down the rocks, which can offer a fast and sometimes hollow ride. Just keep in mind that swells over 6ft (1.8 meters) can cause the bay to close-out.

When you're planning your surf session, the best wind direction is southwest, and the mid to high tides are preferable for catching the waves. Be cautious of strong rips and side drift when you’re out there. Overall, Playa De La Canteria is a pretty solid spot for those looking to improve their skills while enjoying some beach time.
