Playa de Rodo surf guide

Playa de Rodo is located along the rugged coastline of Galicia, which sits at the far western tip of northern Spain. This beach features a long, golden crescent of sand nestled between rocky points at both ends. It’s known for being a consistent surf spot, even in summer. While summer days can get pretty busy with both locals and visitors from nearby cities like Ferrol and A Coruña, the beach usually has enough waves for everyone to catch a few.

The surf here works well with swells coming from the NW and W, handling sizes from about 2ft to 8ft (0.6m to 2.4m). The waves break over sand, providing both right and left rides. It’s a great place for intermediate surfers, but be ready for some challenging paddling when the surf is pumping. Ideal wind directions are from the ESE, SE, and SSE, and the best tide heights are at low to mid. You can use various boards here, whether you're on a shortboard, funboard, longboard, or even a fish.

Access to Playa de Rodo is simple, making it easy to get to the water. While you can expect busy crowds on weekends, the vibe remains largely tolerant among the surfers. Just keep an eye out for rip currents, as they can be a hazard in the area. The best time to hit this spot is during the autumn months, from September to November.
