Playa Vega surf guide

Playa Vega is a long beach that offers several peaks where surfers can catch waves. Its northwest orientation gives it an edge, making it more consistent compared to nearby spots. It's a decent place to surf, especially since it can handle the summer northeast winds pretty well. While it can get crowded at times, especially in the summer, there's usually enough space to find your own spot to ride.

The surf here works best with a swell direction coming from the northwest, but you can also catch waves from the west and north. It handles swell sizes starting from about 2ft (0.6m) and breaks over sand, creating beach breaks that can serve up both left and right waves. The preferred conditions for surfing are low to mid and high tides, with winds blowing from the south being ideal. This spot is most suitable for intermediate surfers, so if you're still learning the ropes, you might want to keep that in mind.

Overall, Playa Vega has good beach facilities and parking is usually not a problem, making it a convenient stop for surfers looking to catch some waves without too much hassle. If you’re camping near the village, you’ve got a nice setup to hit the beach whenever you want.
