Playas del Este is a stretch of long sandy beaches offering beachbreak peaks that shift with the sandbars. Rather than one fixed break, it is a run of individual beaches, and because the waves are sandbar-driven their exact shape changes from day to day. It is a much quieter option than La Setenta, and it picks up less swell, which makes it a good call when La Setenta is too big or stormy. Strong currents are the one feature that runs the length of the place.
When It Works
The beaches take swell from northwest to northeast, with northeast the best match. Both lefts and rights are on offer, breaking over sand. The size range is 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is moderate, with exposure to wind and the currents keeping it from being a reliable everyday option, so expect worthwhile windows rather than waves on demand.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Beginners will find the waves here manageable. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works.

With a number of separate beaches along the coast, it is worth driving the strip and checking a few before you pick your spot.
