Overview
Point Plomer is a right-hand point that gives entry-level surfers a rare shot at riding long pointbreak rights. It won't go down as the most perfect or exciting right point on the coast, but it's a friendly place to work on your surfing. The wave refracts and shoulders heavily on the inside, so honing your cutback is the order of the day here. It breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand. The nearby beachbreak can be strong and dumpy, and when a northeast wind is blowing, the other side of Queens Head can turn on and get perfect in head-high east swells.
When It Works
The point draws swell from east through south, with southeast (SE) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, and the break is moderately consistent, so you get worthwhile windows without it firing every day. A bit more size stacks up the challenge for less experienced surfers.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. The point works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Lower tides paired with some size will make it more demanding.
Local Tips
This is a solid spot for beginners looking to get a taste of long pointbreak rights. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
Getting in means a dirt road: the Plomer track is a classic that tests vehicles, especially after rain. There's a car park with free parking plus roadside parking. A National Park campsite and some privately run cabins offer camping nearby; they fill up during school holidays but can be quiet mid-week, mid-term.
