Overview
Point Reyes Beach (North Side) is a wild, windswept stretch of sandbars and rip currents that breaks over sand. It's a beachbreak throwing up both lefts and rights, and it comes alive on small, peaky swells.
When It Works
The beach pulls in swell from south to north (S-N) and stays consistent, so there's usually something to ride. It's at its best on small, peaky days and works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Bigger swells can be surfed, but the challenge becomes making it out past the bars and avoiding the dangerous currents and white sharks.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable in sandbars and moving water. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
Access
The easiest way in is at the ends of the signed roads leading to North Beach and South Beach. There's a car park, plus restrooms and camping.
