Overview
Pointe Leydé, also known as Roches Blanches, is a very good left-hand point near Douarnenez. It breaks over an uneven reef, with a rocky take-off that feeds into a long, spinning wall.
When It Works
This one needs a big swell to switch on, and it can turn near-perfect in a southwest storm. It draws swell from southwest through northwest, with northwest (NW) the best match. The wave is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is on the lower side, so it can be somewhat inconsistent, but the reward on the right day is a long, walling left.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind, though it also handles west winds if the swell is there. It breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave, and the rocky take-off leaves little room for error. On the rare days it breaks, the lineup gets very busy and tension can run high in the water, so pick your moments and surf with respect.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, and Tréboul is a good pointer for tracking it down. Keep in mind that freecamping the car parks around Douarnenez risks a ticket in summer.
