Ponte Metalica is a reefbreak that peels next to an old steel pier, with peaks breaking both left and right over a slab of limestone reef and dead coral. Beyond the surf, the pier is a well-known sunset spot, pulling in hundreds of tourists in the evenings.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northwest through north to east, and north swell is the best match. The peaks can get sucky and come alive on a northerly swell paired with lower water. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and is moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest offshore wind, though easterly winds aren't a problem here either. The peaks favor lower water, working through low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly reef, but expect a very busy lineup when it's on. Pollution is worth keeping in mind alongside the crowds.
Access
You'll find restrooms, a lifeguard, and a surf shop on hand. Parking is straightforward, with a car park offering free parking plus paid and roadside options.
