Overview
Ponte Vedra is a secluded stretch of beachbreak running roughly 10 miles just south of Jacksonville Beach. The waves break over sand and peel both left and right, with peaks that shift around as the sandbars move. It's a decent setup that rewards patience more than it delivers day in, day out.
When It Works
Ponte Vedra draws swell from south through north, and a south (S) swell is the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so you want a bit of size before it comes to life. Autumn, winter, and spring bring the most swell, including hurricane groundswell. Consistency is only average, so it won't turn on every day, but there are worthwhile windows when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean it up. The bank works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an approachable, beginner-friendly beachbreak that suits just about anything under your feet, from shortboards and fish to funboards and longboards. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works, though the long stretch of coast leaves plenty of room to spread out, and the vibe stays low-key. Paddling out isn't too bad, but it can get challenging when the surf is bigger. Keep in mind that sharks and jellyfish are both possible in the water.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, and from there it's a short walk to the sand. Break-ins are a known problem at the lot, so don't leave anything valuable in your car.
