Overview
Port Denison is a left-hand reef break that peels outside the long breakwall and rumbles across an extensive limestone shelf. It holds size and can serve up a long ride on good days, with solid turns and the occasional barrel on tap.
When It Works
The wave draws swell from south to west, with southwest the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and keeps its shape as the swell builds. The break is moderately consistent, so it rewards timing your session for a solid pulse.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind, with a workable wind window running from northeast to southeast. It breaks across low, mid, and high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly wall with a bit of grunt but without the scare factor. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, and watch for currents once there's size in the water.
Access
Reaching the lineup means a long walk out over the spiky reef. There's a car park with free parking.
