Flat Rock surf guide

Flat Rock is located south of Geraldton and offers a decent surf experience for those willing to explore. The spot features a mix of uneven reef and sandy areas, which means you’ve got different options when it comes to catching waves. You'll find various peaks along the coastline, providing a good amount of potential for riders. Just be mindful that the locals can be a bit protective, so respect the lineup if you're out there.

When it comes to surfing at Flat Rock, the best conditions happen with a southwest swell, but it can also work with south and west swells. The spot can handle swell sizes going as low as 2 feet (around 0.6 meters) up to head-high and more, catering well to intermediate surfers. You’ll find left and right breaks, giving you some choices when you’re out on the water. The preferred wind direction is northeast, which helps clean up the waves. Tides don’t seem to be too picky either; low, mid, or high tide conditions can all produce decent rides.

Keep in mind that the afternoon winds can pick up and potentially ruin your session, so it’s often better to surf earlier in the day if you want the best conditions. Flat Rock is a pretty isolated spot, which adds to its unique vibe. Just remember to stay aware of your surroundings while you enjoy the waves.
