Overview
Port of Ness is a sheltered pocket of sand facing the mainland, where northerly swells wrap onto the sandbars and a scattering of rocks. The banks are forever shifting, but the southern end holds a right that peels off the rocks. When the wind swings west, it makes for a quick check from Europie.
When It Works
The spot draws swell from northwest through northeast, with northeast the best match. It breaks over sand as a beach break and throws up both lefts and rights depending on how the banks have set up. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so there's a wide window to play with. Just know it can be somewhat inconsistent, so it pays to time your sessions when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind to clean things up. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable reading shifting banks. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on. Keep an eye on the water though, as the rips here can run strong.

There's a car park with free parking plus roadside parking nearby, and restrooms on hand.
