Porthcawl - The Point is a right-hand point break tucked between Sandy Bay and Trecco Bay, just south of town. It peels over an uneven reef, opening with a fast, sucky drop before mellowing out into a long, workable wall.
When It Works
This one is picky. The Point only comes to life when big swells push far enough up the channel, so it sits dormant on smaller days. It draws swell from southwest to west, with southwest swell the best match for the setup. Expect it to work from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, needing plenty of size before the wall starts to line up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to clean up the face. The point favours high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call as the water fills in.
Local Tips
This is an advanced-only wave, and the lineup gets busy with locals when it's on. Come ready for a fast takeoff and a committed drop.
Access
Reach the break through the caravan park. There's a car park with free parking close by.
