Portstewart Strand Surf Forecast Guide

Portstewart Strand is a long beach break, some 3 km of forgiving, novice-level peaks running along the sand. A long, bashable sandbar sits on the east side and offers the most workable wave, while rips at either end of the beach can be handy for intermediate surfers wanting an easier paddle out back.

When It Works

The peaks draw swell from the northwest through to the north (NW-N), with a north swell the best match. Waves break over sand into both lefts and rights, and the spot works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.

Wind and Tide

Look for a southeast offshore wind to groom the faces. The beach can work through most of the tide, across low, mid, and high water, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is a beginner-friendly stretch, well suited to surfers finding their feet on gentle, rolling peaks. Expect plenty of company through the summer, when the beach fills with tourists.

Access

There's a surf shop close by and camping if you want to stay near the waves. Parking comes in both free and paid forms, though as a National Trust property the beach itself carries a parking charge over the summer.
