Overview
Praia das Maçás is a sand-bottomed beachbreak with wedgy lefts that peel off the cliffs and help boost up the swell. It breaks both left and right and picks up just about any swell going, though it doesn't hold much size.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from the southwest through northwest, with northwest (NW) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, sitting happiest on small to moderate swells rather than anything with real size behind it.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean it up. This is a low tide break, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
Praia das Maçás suits intermediate surfers. The local crew is devoted but friendly, and they don't leave many waves to share, so expect the lineup to be well worked when it's on.
Access
There are showers and a lifeguard on the beach, along with a car park offering free parking and roadside parking nearby.
