Praia do Norte is one of Ericeira's most reliable waves, sitting just a short walk from the town centre. It's primarily a right-hand reef at the north end that tends to section, with a left further up the beach and peaks down by the harbour wall. The waves break over a mix of uneven reef and sand, so there's a bit of everything on offer.
When It Works
This is one of the most dependable spots in the area, handling swells of almost any size and from just about any direction. It draws swell from southwest through north (SW-N), with northwest (NW) the best match. The working range runs from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, which keeps it rideable across a wide spread of conditions.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean things up. It works through mid and high tide, with mid tide the optimal call, and both rising and falling tides can produce.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers well, with plenty of variety across the reef, the left, and the harbour-wall peaks to keep things interesting.
