Overview
Praia dos Mosteiros is a cruisey right-hand point off the northern headland, just south of town. The wave peels over an uneven reef and hands you an easy take-off into a long wall. Once you're in, it stands up into steep performance walls with plenty of power in the pocket. It breaks shallow, so keep that in mind.
When It Works
The point draws swell from the southwest through north (SW-N), with west (W) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so there's a wide window between too small and too big to find a session.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to groom the wall. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call as the tide fills in.
Local Tips
The long, powerful wall suits intermediate surfers looking to link turns down the point.
Access
Facilities are unusually good for the area. You'll find restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and camping nearby, along with a car park with free parking.
