Overview
Preneuse is a barreling left that runs along a corner of the barrier reef, just offshore of the Martello Tower museum. The wave breaks over live coral, and it carries all the usual Mauritian hazards: rips, sharks, reef and urchins.
When It Works
It picks up swell from south to west, with southwest the direction that lines the reef up best. The wave is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Consistency is moderate rather than dependable, but it gets ridden regularly, so the windows are worth watching for.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The left suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable over live coral. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
