Overview
Promises is a serious right-hand tube that peels off an isolated small island. It's a fast, hollow barrel breaking over live coral, and the reef sits shallow right beneath your fins, making this an expert-only wave.
When It Works
This right-hand reef draws swell from south to west (S-W), and lines up best on a southwest (SW) swell. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so it needs a solid pulse of swell to break.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to groom it. The reef comes to life on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect an empty lineup more often than not. Few surfers can keep pace with the flat-out speed of the barrel while ignoring the shallow coral just below their fins, so it rarely gets crowded.
